30DOH – Day 2: The Front Closet

Welcome to Day Two of 30 Days to an Organized Home, our 30-day journey to sanity and cleanliness. :)

On Day One we talked about cleaning up our hot spots. I don’t know about you, but I am LOVING my nice, clean kitchen counter. It makes me so happy to look at. As you’re moving forward, remember to keep this spot clean! If stuff piles up, address it quickly. Threaten the rest of the family with bodily harm if they don’t get their act together and help you out! Here’s what my hot spot looked like after Hurricane I-Lain hit it:

Much better, eh? All that junk has been re-assigned to its proper place. Even just having one spot clean makes me feel so much better!

Today, we’re pulling the skeletons out of the closet… literally!

Your Task: Tackle your front closet.

Got more than one? Pick the most heinous. :) Follow the instructions on page 5 of your book and then report back here to tell me how it went. While you’re at it, count the hangers and record your number below, just for fun. :)

Well we don’t have a front closet – so we did our wardrobe. My sister helped me workd out what to ditch. :) It’s not totally spotless, I didn’t attack my shoes or belts, but progress is happening!

DH has 60 and I have 79 hangers

Front closet in a farm house is typically at the “back” door, as EVERYONE always uses the other door because of it’s proximity to the driveway, garage, and various pieces of equipment. Besides, the “real” back door has the oh-so necessary mud-room.
The long and the short of this means, our front closet is used for the husband’s wardrobe. His things are all under control but I have a tendency to hide things in there that need sorting through and I have a collection of “spa” items that just don’t have a home.
Hanger count: 32 wooden holding DH wardrobe: 2 plastic to be sent to charity shop; 6 wire, now in recycle box.
Shopping list: Large hassock for foot bath, heating pad, etc; two baskets for hats on top shelf; a hanger to hold his ties neatly.
